Before getting down to business, I have to apologize for the lack of updates to the blog lately. Since I'm a student, sometimes my professors decide that school is more important than Auburn basketball and force me to focus on that instead. Don't worry though, that brief time is behind us and I am free to focus on what's really important. Now for the real reason you're here...
That's right, after a year's hiatus, Auburn is once again putting on a midnight madness event, and this time they really mean business. Tony Barbee has pulled quite a few strings this year to get very high-profile stars Mike Epps and Ludacris to perform at this year's event. Actor/comedian Mike Epps (The Hangover, Next Friday) will MC the event and Ludacris is set to perform at some point during the night.
Of course, the main attraction of the event is and always will be the basketball team, and they will get plenty of time in the spotlight as well. Fans will be introduced to the team and then treated to a dunk and 3-point contest, as well as a team scrimmage. (My money is on Chris Denson for the dunk and 3-point contests) Aubie, the cheerleaders, and the pep band will be at the game as well to get everyone even more fired up.
The event is Friday, October 4 at 7 pm, but the Auburn Arena doors open at 6 so you'll want to be there early to claim a good seat. Oh, and admission is free for everyone, so you pretty much have no reason not to be there at this point.
Students get special treatment for the event, as they can claim a wristband for the event that allows them to sit in the Jungle's floor-level seating. The wristbands are free and can be picked up at the North Arena Box Office at 10 am on Wednesday, September 25 (tomorrow!) until supplies last.
To say that this is the biggest event that Auburn basketball has put on in years would be a huge understatement. My hat goes off to Coach Barbee for being able to put it all together this year and get the Auburn basketball family pumped about another season on the Plains. Remember to keep checking the blog for updates as the season approaches and I'll finally have more time to post! See you on October 4 in the Arena!
